Newly Natural Again - My BFF Did the Big Chop!
Way back when, about 6 years ago, my best friend Ashley was rocking the teeny weeny afro when no one else that I knew even cared to know what their natural hair looked like. I gave her the side eye and swung my weave, scrunching up my nose at the thought of an afro. Fast forward to 2010 and I'M the natural hair girl with the big curly afro and she's whipping her weave around like nobody's business, so good at it that she started building her own weave caps and creatimg custom clip ins. Then....CHOP! My best friend sat in front of her mother and let her cut her relaxed hair from arm pit length down to a teeny weeny afro (TWA) again. She of the high cheekbones and beautiful slanted eyes with impossibly long lashes wasn't hidden behind bangs or long layers anymore.
With Ashley now natural again, every black woman that I know is a natural head! That's incredibly cool that they've all decided to embrace their textures and shrug off the unhealthy creamy crack :) As to why she decided to do so again, she said that she was just incredibly tired of the whole process that goes along with getting a relaxer and the limp hair that became the result. Armed with much more knowledge this time around, she thinks that she'll be able to grow long, healthy natural hair and embrace better techniques for taking care of it. As much as I stalked natural hair blogs in the past and gathered information, I think that she'll be JUST fine with product recommendations and styling ideas ;) Love it girl!
I did her makeup to do some photos and these are the products used:
Smashbox eye shadow in Champagne (above the crease to the brow bone)
L'oreal H.I.P. duo in Riotous (the light green all over the lid, the dark green on the outer corners)
Jane Iredale lipstick in Sophia
Maybelline Gel Liner in Blackest Black
Covergirl Lash Blast Luxe in Black Platinum
Mac Gold Deposit highlighter over the top of the cheekbones
Nars Blush in Taos
Black Radiance Complexion Perfection Liquid Foundation in Ebony for her cheek hollows to contour
